After spending nearly a year with my nieces, I’ve watched Moana more times than I can count. I’ve sung every song, laughed at Hei Hei’s antics, and cheered Moana on during her incredible journey. But beyond the catchy tunes and stunning visuals, this Disney masterpiece delivers **powerful lessons about self-discovery, perseverance, and finding your path in life.

Lesson 1: Your Family’s Dreams Aren’t Always Yours

Sometimes, the people we love the most—our family and close friends—want us to follow a path they think is best for us. While their intentions come from a place of love, these dreams may not align with our own.  

Moana experienced this struggle firsthand. Her family wanted her to stay on the island and embrace her responsibilities as the future chief. But Moana’s heart longed for the ocean and the adventures that lay beyond the reef.  

It’s not about rejecting your family’s love or guidance. Instead, it’s about taking time for self-reflection and asking yourself the important questions:

• What is my true desire?  
• What have I always dreamed of doing?

In the end, Moana fulfilled her destiny as a Wayfinder, all while honouring her family and their legacy. Her story reminds us that even when we feel isolated, we are connected to the people and forces that inspire and guide us.
